Indonesian Pangasius at SIAL Interfood Indonesia
Indonesian Pangasius introduced itself at the SIAL Interfood 2018 in Indonesia on 22 November 2018. The launching was supported by the Indonesian Marine and Fisheries Ministry (MMAF) and SMART-Fish UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization).
The goal was to introduce Indonesian Pangasius as the healthy and better choice than the competitors to the domestic and ASEAN market. Currently, pangasius fillet under Indonesian Pangasius mostly consumed by the domestic market. But many of the consumers still do not know what Indonesian Pangasius is and why Indonesian Pangasius is better than its competitors.
Rifky Effendi Hardijanto, Director General of Product Competitiveness of MMAF said, “Pangasius fillet is a popular product in modern retail, hotel, restaurant, catering service, and aviation food service industries. However, the illegal import of pangasius fillet that contains Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) that exceeds the threshold and the widespread use of miss-labeling Dory brand (Vietnamese pangasius) which has now been banned in several importing countries, has somewhat hurt consumer trust in national pangasius products”
Indonesian Pangasius as the national identity will commit to guaranteeing the quality of its pangasius products both in terms of food security and conformity of product specifications requested by domestic and foreign buyers. One of the ways to demonstrate that commitment is by supporting the cooking competitions which was held by SIAL Interfood. The chefs were very satisfied with pangasius provided by Indonesian Pangasius.
